Nestled against the western slopes of the Allegheny Mountains, Pocahontas County enjoys four distinct seasons, each more spectacular than the last. 

Here in the mountains of the Monongahela National Forest, spring arrives a bit later and fall colors peak a bit earlier than in other parts of the region.  It’s not unusual to experience frost in May or snow in November.  Even in summer when daytime highs often reach the 80s, evenings can be chilly.

We cannot predict exactly the changing of the leaves in the fall, but for the most part, peak colors typically occur the final week of September into the first week of October. 

During winter Mother Nature has been known to deposit close to 200 inches of snow on Snowshoe Mountain making a perfect playground for skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and general winter time fun.  The road crews in Pocahontas County are known for their ability to keep major routes cleared so guests can get in to the area for seasonal recreation.

From the first spring wildflower to the last snowflake of winter, any time is a great time to visit Pocahontas County.
