Whether you’ve smothered your pancakes in it, had a cocktail or enjoyed it in a sweet treat – maple syrup is a delectable sauce to enjoy alone or with some special, like atop a donut or bowl of vanilla ice cream!
Here in Pocahontas County, West Virginia – we’re the most southern point in the Mid-Atlantic that produces maple syrup. Maple syrup is made through a tedious process that requires nearly 40 parts (10 gallons) of maple sap from sugar maple trees, which makes up one quart of the traditional maple syrup you eat. Essentially this sap is collected from the sugar maple trees, and boiled until it reaches the proper density for the syrup consistency. Preparation is crucial and it takes skill and patience to craft the ideal and delicious syrup.
You can experience and see first hand the process it takes to make maple syrup – from start to finish – at the 2019 West Virginia Maple Days Weekends in Pocahontas County!
