Meet Cree Lahti

~ Thursday, July 21, 2016

Growing up in Fayetteville, WV as a potter's daughter, Cree Lahti was destined to share the love for the arts as her dad did.  She recalls as a child going to festivals with her dad carrying around large buckets of clay.  Since those days Cree still has the love of making beautiful things and it shows in her custom made clay jewelry. For the past 10 years Cree takes the beauty of nature and incorporates it into her handmade jewelry.  Taking leaves and natural fibers found in nature she presses them into pendant shaped clay to create beautiful necklaces and earrings. She sells her jewelry around the State of West Virginia at festivals, the 4th Ave Gallery in Marlinton, WV Marketplace at Snowshoe Resort and Tamarack.

When Cree is not creating beautiful jewelry and spending time with her husband and son, she is taking care of daily operations at the Linwood Library & Community Center located at the base of Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Cree came on board in 2004 as the Library was starting up.  Now, 12 years later, the library is buzzing with the sounds of children laughing from the day care, residents and visitors coming in to use the free wifi and checking out their summer reads, art classes being held in the back room and activities changing from week to week. Cree has loved watching this community center grow into what it is today and remarks, "I never know what's going to happen each day!"

When Cree is not assisting the guests at the Linwood Library she is spending time with her family at their home in Green Bank.  She says that they love hiking and taking in the beauty Pocahontas County has to offer and then also the occasional trip to D.C. or larger cities to enjoy dining and attractions. One thing Cree has kept going as a family tradition is art.  Summers are spent with her husband, Kevin a Stone Sculpture and her son 12 year old son an aspiring artist making clay masks and Cree Lahti Jewelry traveling around the state to art fairs sharing their love and talent.  By Sarah Irvine
