It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Spend the holiday season in the scenic mountains of Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Our event calendar is packed with merriment, from annual parades to family-friendly gatherings. Here are eight can’t-miss seasonal events in Pocahontas County.
1. Holiday Craft Fair
Start your holiday shopping at the Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, November 30, at Hillsboro Elementary School. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., browse home decor, jewelry, baked goods and more — perfect gifts for everyone on your list! The Little Levels 4H Club will host a concession stand, and there’s even face painting for the kids.
2. Marlinton Christmas Parade
Join in with the festive spirit at the Marlinton Christmas Parade on Friday, December 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. Main Street will close to make way for community floats, antique cars and fire trucks. And be on the lookout for a visit from Santa himself! Arrive early to explore the Christmas Craft Show at the Pocahontas County Opera House (4-9 p.m.), and don’t miss the Holiday Open House at the Pocahontas County CVB Visitor Center (6-8 p.m.).
3. 4th Avenue Gallery Open House
Finish your holiday shopping at the 4th Avenue Gallery Open House on December 6, from 3 to 7 p.m. The gallery, run by the Pocahontas County Artisans Co-op, offers unique handcrafted items perfect for gift-giving. During the event, there will be a special drawing for original, hand-painted ornaments. Tickets for the drawing are available for $1 each or six for $5, with all proceeds as donations to the artisans co-op. Enjoy a festive afternoon supporting local artists and finding something truly special for the holidays!
4. Ceramic Tree Painting Night at Simply Sweet Cafe
On Friday, December 6, at 6 p.m., head to Simply Sweet Cafe in Durbin for a cozy evening of ceramic tree painting and snacks. With just 20 spots available, a deposit is required to reserve your place by the sign-up deadline on November 22. For $40 per person, participants will receive a 10.5-inch ceramic tree, clear or colored lights, and all the necessary painting supplies, along with finger foods. Trees will need time to set, so pick-up will be available the next day or later. Enjoy the creative process and take home a beautiful holiday decoration!
5. A Very Merry Christmas at Boyer Station Campground
Experience the glow of holiday lights from your car at Boyer Station Campground in Arbovale on Saturday, December 7, 14 and 21. The campground will feature light displays from 6 to 9 p.m., making for a magical evening under the stars.
6. Christmas in Durbin
Durbin lights up for Christmas on Saturday, December 14. Start the day at the Durbin Library with crafts and a showing of A Christmas Story (noon to 2 p.m.), followed by cookie decorating at Simply Sweet Cafe (2 to 4 p.m.). Santa arrives at Station 2 for cocoa and visits from 4 to 6 p.m., leading up to the 3rd Annual Christmas Parade at 7 p.m.
7. Christmas at Cass
Hop aboard a decorated, heated train at the Cass Scenic Railroad for a memorable holiday journey every Thursday through Saturday through December 24. Departing from the Cass depot, this steam-powered ride offers scenic views along the Greenbrier River and even a special gift for each child. Plus, don’t miss the Holiday Market at the Cass Community Center on December 14 (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.), perfect for last-minute gifts and visits with Santa. Then, on December 21, join the fun at the Christmas Cookie Bake-off and Bingo, with prizes for the best homemade treats!
8. Holiday Celebrations at Snowshoe Mountain Resort
Spend the season on the slopes at Snowshoe Mountain Resort, celebrating both Christmas and the Resort’s 50th season. From December 23 to 31, enjoy the Holiday Celebrations, complete with glistening slopes, twinkling lights and festive gatherings. On December 24, gather with friends and family for the Village Christmas Celebration, featuring Christmas carols, holiday cheer and a visit from Santa! Round out the year with Snowshoe’s New Year’s Eve Party on December 31 and enjoy family-friendly fun, live music and a dance floor to welcome the new year in style.
