2023 Mountain State Maple Days in Nature’s Mountain Playground!
Mountain State Maple Days in Nature’s Mountain Playground will take place Saturday, February 18 & Saturday, March 18, 2023 @ 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
West Virginia is home to one of the largest concentrations of Maple trees in the country and folks have been tapping trees for centuries, capturing the sweet water from the Maple and creating the delectable maple syrup. Today several family farms in Pocahontas County still harvest the sweet water and produce maple syrup and other maple products. Visitors can experience this tradition during the annual Mountain State Maple Days. Plan your winter weekend getaway around the events on Saturday February 18th and March 18th to enjoy not only winter outdoor adventure but also the sweet experience of sugar camp tours, special restaurant maple menus and more.
SUGAR CAMP TOURS 2023:
Frostmore Farm:
Located on Route 92, South of Dunmore & North of Frost. Tours are FREE & maple product sales available. Open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday & Sunday mid-February through March. Offers a year round roadside stand. A traditional farm with modern techniques. Frostmore Farm offers you a peek into the more modern techniques to producing maple syrup. Learn about the applications of modern equipment and the sweet results of the authentic syrup.
Fort Warwick Farm:
Just off Route 28 near Green Bank, 1/2 mile South of the Dollar General Store. Turn at the Deer Creek Bridge beside the Church of God & follow the dirt road 1/2 mile. Tours are FREE & maple product samples are available. http://fortwarwick.com/ Fort Warwick captures the essences of traditional maple syrup production- family traditions passed down from generation to generation. Learn the ways of the past at this picturesque horse farm.
Yew Mountain Center:
9494 Lobelia Road, off US Route 219 South of Hillsboro. Lobelia Road is is just South of Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park (a right turn if you’re headed South). Stay right on Lobelia Road at the intersection with Jacox Road, about 2 miles. Continue for about 1.3 miles and Yew Mountain Center is on the left. Sugar bush tours, tapping techniques, savory & sweet maple delights and kids’ educational activities.
Hillsboro Maple Works:
Hillsboro Maple Works, near Hillsboro, WV, will offer sugar house tours including sap collection, reverse osmosis, and wood-fired boiling, to finishing, filtering and canning syrup. Syrup and products will be available for sampling and for sale. February 18 open house at the sugar house: From route 219 between Mill Point and Hillsboro, take Seebert Lane east towards Watoga State Park. Go 1/2 mile and turn right on Rose Rd. Go 1/2 mile and turn left on Puffenbarger Rd. Go 1/2 mile and turn left on Kelley Jones Dr. Go 1/2 mile to the last house on the left at the top of the hill, brown with blue trim.
March 18 open house at the sugar bush: From route 219 between Mill Point and Hillsboro, take Seebert Lane east towards Watoga State Park. Go 2 miles to gravel lots at the Greenbrier River Trail/Jack Horner’s Corner. Turn around here and head back the direction you came, up Seebert Rd. Go 0.2 miles to a slight right turn over the hill onto Seebert Rd (27). Continue on Seebert Rd along the river 0.7mi to the Low Water Bridge. Just prior to this concrete/culvert creek crossing, turn left under the rail trail bridge and through gate. Follow signs for parking.

Starry Night Farm: 1647 Dee Friel Road, Cass, WV II 304-799-4816
In operation for two years, Starry Night Farm owners Rick and Lisa tap ~100 trees on their farm. Maple Days tours 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. both February 18th and March 18th. Learn how to build a budget friendly maple syrup production system, tap the potential of your maple trees while keeping your day job. In addition to tours of the sugar camp, Starry Night Farm will have retail sales of candy/suckers, cinnamon rolls, and maple syrup. Directions: In Marlinton, turn off of Rt 219 at the Walgreens Pharmacy onto Airport Road/Brush Country Roads; travel straight on Brush Country Road until you come to the Edray Road intersection; Turn right onto Edray Road; take the next right onto Fairview Road; follow 2 miles and turn right on Dee Friel Road; travel to the end of the road and driveway is straight ahead. Watch for signing.

Saturday, March 18, 2023: Maple Magic Workshop at Fort Warwick Farm
High Rocks personnel will provide educational kid’s activities based around maple syrup production and products from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Sunday, March 19, 2023: WV Ski Free Day at Snowshoe Mountain
