2024 Mountain State Maple Days Preview

Tap into the sugary wonders of Pocahontas County! Explore the sweet traditions of West Virginia’s maple syrup production, as family farms across the county open their doors for the annual Mountain State Maple Days on Saturday, February 17, and Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sugar Camp Tours

  • Fort Warwick Farm
    Located off Route 28 near Green Bank
    Discover the authentic charm of traditional maple syrup production at Fort Warwick Farm. Learn about the time-honored techniques where family traditions span generations. Enjoy a guided tour of the sugar camp and try delicious free samples.
  • Frostmore Farm
    Located on Route 92, south of Dunmore and north of Frost
    A traditional farm with innovative techniques, learn the secrets of modern maple syrup making at Frostmore Farm. While at the farm, treat your taste buds to maple-infused samples, including maple cream, maple candy, maple cotton candy, maple cinnamon rolls and maple cookies. Please note – Frostmore Farm will only be open for tours on February 17. Sugar camp tours will not be offered on March 16, but the farm’s self-serve roadside kiosk off Route 92 will be stocked with maple products for purchase (cash only).
  • Hillsboro Maple Works
    Located in Hillsboro
    Follow the sweet scent to Hillsboro Maple Works for a journey into the heart of syrup making. From sap collection, reverse osmosis and wood-fired boiling to the final stages of finishing, filtering and canning syrup, this immersive experience takes you through the entire process. 
  • Yew Mountain Center
    9494 Lobelia Road, off US Route 219 South of Hillsboro
    If you’re up for a scenic drive, head to Yew Mountain Center, where sugar bush tours, tapping techniques, sweet and savory maple treats, and kid’s educational activities await! 

Maple Munchies

As you tour the farms, treat your taste buds to the sweetness of our local restaurants, featuring special maple menus. For a sugar-coated start to your day, grab a bite at Handmade WV. They’re serving up buckwheat cakes using Arbaugh Farm flour and Hillsboro Maple Works syrup, paired with a fruit and pastry bar. If you’re a fan of all things sweet, Mountain State Cakes is your go-to spot. Indulge in their maple donuts, cinnamon rolls and an assortment of other maple goodies. For a unique caffeine kick, Snowshoe Hare has you covered with their signature maple latte – aptly named The Snowshoe Hare. When dinnertime rolls around, head to Hillsboro Pub! Enjoy Yams Y’all (sweet potatoes with maple honey mustard), the Cherry River salad/wrap with maple candied pecans and maple dill vinaigrette, carrot cake with maple cream cheese frosting, maple-glazed chicken wings and maple candied bacon. Look for more maple-infused specials at Dean’s Den, Dirtbean Cafe, Greenbrier Grille, Rivertown Cafe and Simply Sweet Cafe.

Wrap up your sugary adventures with special events such as Opry Night on February 17, at the Opera House in Marlinton. Enjoy the tunes of Mary Sue and Mike Burns with Old-Time Festival Friends.
