Rivertown presents the Homegrown Music Series! Our lineup highlights and celebrates West Virginia musicians.
The Kevin Prater Band delivers “Coal-Fired, Pure Kentucky Bluegrass” (traditional bluegrass, classic country, bluegrass gospel, original tunes and grassed up vintage rock). It requires a group of stellar musicians to make all that happen. Kevin Prater (Belcher, KY.) on mandolin, he is accompanied by Mallory Hindman (Reader, WV.) on fiddle. On guitar, Dalton Smith of Hinton, WV. On banjo, Bailey Moore (Chatham, VA.) and Nathaneil Stephens, (Grayson, WV.) on bass. All members of the band play multiple instruments and contribute to the bands incredible vocals.
Kevin Prater began his bluegrass journey at age seven. He has entertained in 49 states and 24 countries. Though he has played with many legends of bluegrass in career, he is most known for his twelve years with the legendary, James King Band. During his time with King, he was part of two “Album of the Year”, a “Song of the Year” and a “Recorded Event of the Year”, award winning projects. He was also nominated at “Banjo Player of the Year” during a three year stint with The Bluegrass Brothers.
Currently the band is recording their sixth CD, first project on Turnberry Records. The first single was released April 22, 2024 and on May 17 it was #6 in the world on the Roots Music Charts. Second single will release soon followed by the full project. Also in early 2025 Kevin Prater hopes to release a solo project.
