Space Race Rumpus

It’s a festival. It’s races. It’s group rides. It’s clinics. It’s a fundraiser. It’s a tradition.
The Space Race Rumpus is an annual event that takes place every June in the home of the world’s largest steerable telescope. The Space Race Rumpus routes allow participants to explore the Green Bank Observatory Property as well as the surrounding beauty of the rest of Pocahontas County.
Over the weekend-long event, you have the opportunity to participate in guided road rides ranging from 20 to 50+ miles and in guided mountain bike rides suitable for all skill levels, from absolute beginners to experienced riders. Take place in one of the races for all ages and skill levels on a course right next to eight radio telescopes, including the 485-foot tall Green Bank Telescope! Then spend the evening camping under the stars, enjoying music, and much more!
