The Pocahontas County Opera House

This historic venue’s intimate setting, with seating for just 250, puts you right in the heart of the action. Today, it serves as the county’s premier performing arts center, hosting an annual series featuring over a dozen performances a year. From bluegrass and jazz to folk and musicals, the Opera House offers a diverse range of entertainment.

Upcoming Performance At The Opera House

Mark your calendars for a unique musical collaboration on May 31, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Celebrated Irish singer Ceara Conway joins forces with artist-musician Anna Roberts Gevalt for an unforgettable evening blending traditional and contemporary melodies. Witness the fusion of their artistic talents in this special performance. Advance tickets are available online or at the 4th Avenue Gallery in Marlinton. Cash only for tickets purchased at the door. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Rivertown Music’s Homegrown Music Series 

Rivertown Music, located in the historic CJ Richardson’s hardware store in Marlinton, has a cozy vintage ambiance. But the magic doesn’t stop there! Rivertown Music is a platform for local West Virginia musicians. The Homegrown Music Series brings talented artists to the stage every month from March to November, with shows running from 7 to 10 p.m. Catch Chicory Roots on June 7, and Jake Krack and Friends on June 21, with more acts to follow throughout the summer. Allegheny Echoes 

Dive into the heart of West Virginia’s musical heritage with the 28th annual Allegheny Echoes summer workshops from June 23-29. This special event welcomes students of all ages to Marlinton for a week of immersive learning and fun. Led by renowned musicians, participants can hone their skills on various instruments like banjo, fiddle and guitar, or explore songwriting and bluegrass techniques. Allegheny Echoes goes beyond music lessons, offering outdoor adventures that capture the essence of the Appalachian spirit.

Little Levels Heritage Fair

Celebrate the rich history and traditions of Pocahontas County at the 26th Annual Little Levels Heritage Fair in Hillsboro from June 28-30. In addition to handcrafted goods, historical demonstrations, parades and food vendors, this family-friendly event features live music all day Saturday. Get ready to tap your feet to the tunes of local bands, including the Hefner Family Band (10 a.m.), Juanita Fireball & The Continental Drifters (11 a.m.), Richard Hefner & The Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys (noon), The Viney Mountain Boys (1 p.m.) and Uncle Gary and The Porch Pickers (2 p.m.). 

Pioneer Days & Hammons Family Fiddle & Banjo Contest

Don’t miss out on the excitement at Pioneer Days on July 11-13. This homecoming-style festival has been a beloved annual tradition since 1967, and is back with even more fun activities and events for the whole family. Experience the vibrant culture of Pocahontas County through live music, exhibits, arts and crafts, contests, parades and delicious food vendors. 

During the festival, The Hammons Family Fiddle and Banjo Contest will be held at Discovery Junction in Marlinton. The contest features skilled musicians from across the region who compete for the state’s largest cash prize. The event also showcases the unique musical heritage of the area.

4848 Festival 

Get the best of both worlds with a festival vacation to Snowshoe Mountain Resort for its popular 4848 Festival on July 18-20. Appreciate everything a music festival has to offer while experiencing a mountain resort vacation. Head to the Marlinton Motor Inn to kick back, enjoy a delicious meal, a cold cocktail, and live music! Just North of Marlinton off Route 219, the Marlinton Motor Inn features an array of live music. In the summer and early fall months, weather permitting, patrons can catch live music on the patio out back and take in the breathtaking backdrop that surrounds the Marlinton Motor Inn.
