Free Sugar Bush Tours
$8 per plate MTO Pancakes
Embark on a journey to the YMC sugar bush for free tours of the maple operation, guided by Forest Farming Coordinator, Will Lewis. We’ll explore sap run conditions, tapping techniques, and collection methods, and then delve into the intricacies of using the evaporator, all with the benefit of Will’s expertise.
We offer children enriching experiences in outdoor education and maple syrup production, while also featuring fun indoor activities like “Pin the Tap on the Tree” and a hands-on xylem transport craft. Discover even more about the growing maple industry on our self-guided walk through the scenic Yew Forest.
Satisfy your maple cravings with MTO (Made-to-Order) fluffy pancakes drenched in local maple syrup, crafted by Hillsboro Maple Works! The $8 MTO plates support our non-profit program.
Where will you be?
You will be joining us at the Yew Mountain Center, a 500-acre Botanical Sanctuary. Our mission is to provide programs that explore Appalachian ecology, culture, and the arts while promoting personal and community wellness. We are the home of the West Virginia Forest Farming Initiative and a stop on the Mountain Medicine Trail. Learn more at www.yewmountain.org The tour portion of the event will be mostly outdoors, but our lodge, which also offers overnight accommodations, will be available for warm-up breaks, MTO pancakes, and hot beverages.
This is a family-friendly event, and all ages are welcome!
