Break through your winter dormancy and learn about the subtle features of the winter trees with our Winter Trees Walk – “Bark, Buds & Branches.”
Join us for easy walks in the Yew Mountain Center Forest. Go out on a limb and learn about the secret lives of winter trees and enjoy family-friendly fun in nature. Learn Winter Tree Identification from Ken Beezley and Maple Tapping from Will Lewis. Suggested donation: $10, we appreciate every gift of any size.
Learn about identifying trees by their:
  • Bark texture – smoothness, roughness, peeling, or patterns
  • Buds- shape, size, color, and texture
  • Branching patterns—opposite or alternate
Did you know?
Maple trees are one of the rare species with opposite branching, where branches and buds grow directly across from each other on the stem.
