Spend A Weekend At Snowshoe Mountain Resort During Its 50th Anniversary Celebration

For 50 years, Snowshoe Mountain Resort has been a cornerstone of outdoor adventure in the Mid-Atlantic. On December 19, 2024, this legendary resort officially celebrates a half-century of magic on the mountain. From its humble beginnings to becoming a premier year-round destination, Snowshoe is ready to party like it’s 1974 — and you’re invited!

The Evolution of Snowshoe Mountain Resort

Located at an elevation of 4,848 feet on Cheat Mountain in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, Snowshoe Mountain Resort has transformed over the years. What started as a vision by founder Thomas “Doc” Brigham, who saw the mountain’s potential from an airplane, has grown into a four-season playground. Today, Snowshoe features over 60 trails and glades, five terrain parks and a range of activities, from snowmobiling and tubing to off-road tours. The resort has also become home to the world-renowned Snowshoe Bike Park and offers summer adventures like lake activities and hiking.

To mark its golden anniversary, the resort is pulling out all the stops. Here’s how you can join the festivities and experience a memorable weekend at Snowshoe Mountain Resort.

Snowshoe 50th Anniversary Celebration

The main anniversary celebration will run from December 19–22, featuring throwback fun across the resort. Guests can enjoy retro après-ski parties, a sparkling all-gold rail jam, a lively Soul Train dance party and fireworks lighting up the mountain skies. There will also be live music, comedy shows and plenty of opportunities to reconnect with old friends on party laps down the slopes.

Silver Creek Ski Area

Weather permitting, Silver Creek Ski Area will open on December 19. Known for its night skiing, two terrain parks and the family-favorite Coca-Cola Tube Park, Silver Creek offers a mix of beginner-friendly runs and more challenging terrain. After a day on the slopes, you can relax and refuel at nearby shops and restaurants.

Red Fox Revival At The Corduroy Inn

On December 20, the beloved Red Fox Restaurant will return for one night only at Appalachia Kitchen. Once a top-rated dining destination in Snowshoe’s early days, Red Fox lives on in the memories of many. Chef Scott MacGregor will revive the restaurant’s most iconic dishes, offering a deliciously nostalgic experience. Reservations are recommended for this special event!

Holiday Celebrations

As always, Snowshoe welcomes visitors to celebrate the holidays on the mountain. From December 23–31, the resort will host its 50th Season Holiday Celebrations, with events like the Village Christmas Celebration on December 24, featuring Christmas carols, holiday cheer and a special visit from Santa Claus. And to ring in the new year, Snowshoe is hosting several mountain-wide parties. Whether you’re looking for a midnight kiss, family fun or just a place to dance into the new year, you’ll find the perfect venue at Snowshoe.

Where To Dine

Dining at Snowshoe is an experience in itself. The mountaintop village offers everything from quick slope-side bites to gourmet Appalachian-inspired meals paired with stunning mountain views. Whether you’re winding down with a glass of wine or enjoying hearty comfort food with your family, the dining options cater to every taste and occasion.

Every accommodation offers modern amenities and incredible views of the surrounding mountains.
